This generations-old Ayurvedic (a 5000+ year-old system of natural healing with roots in India) tea hits the spot, and it’s easy to make!
Black peppercorns – one of two ingredients in this tea – have a number of healing qualities: they’re antimicrobial; they reduce inflammation; they’re rich in vitamins and minerals; they’re jam-packed with antioxidants; and they increase nutrient absorption. Talk about packing a punch!
Ginger, the other power ingredient in this recipe, can do everything from soothing an upset stomach to fighting infections to combatting inflammation. Wowsah!
My grandmother would always make this tea for me when I’d feel a tickle in my throat, and grandma knows best, right? Check it out.
black peppercorn and ginger tea
1 tbsp black peppercorns
1 cup water
1 inch ginger, crushed
Dry roast black peppercorns in a wok (or similar) for 5 minutes, or until the peppercorns start smoking. The length of time spent dry roasting the peppercorns will determine the strength of the tea. Add 1 cup of water and 1 inch of crushed ginger and boil for 10 minutes. Add honey to taste.
Voila! That’s it. Drink up and be healthy!
