Don’t you just hate it when PMS cramps your style?!
I hear you, queen. Thankfully, my mother, and her mother before her, shared a little secret with me to help keep those pesky symptoms at bay: coriander seeds!
Coriander, also called cilantro, provides a great source of dietary fiber, magnesium, iron, vitamin c, and vitamin k. Used for centuries in Ayurveda (a 5,000 year-old system of natural healing originating from ancient India), coriander can help reduce cramps and assist with an irregular period. And the best part? It’s completely natural!
I usually drink a small cup of roasted coriander seed tea a week prior to my monthly visitor or when my symptoms particularly unpleasant. I find its heady aroma to be incredibly soothing, especially when my hormones are going bonkers. It’s super easy to make; it’s my panacea for that time of the month.
Roasted Coriander Tea
2 1/2 tbsps coriander seeds
1 1/2 cups water
agave nectar or honey to taste
1. Measure 2 1/2 tbsp of coriander seeds. Place seeds in a wok and dry roast on medium high heat for 5 minutes or until golden.
2. Add 1 1/2 cups of cold water to the wok and bring water to a boil. Allow mixture to boil for 10 minutes.
3. Strain the seeds, and add a sweetener to taste (I love agave nectar or honey).
4. Enjoy your tea, and say bye-bye to your cramps!
