Known primarily for its herbal supplements and blends that rely heavily on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, the brand Moon Juice has piqued my interest for quite a while. When I realized they made skincare products that also use TCM and Ayurvedic ingredients, I knew I had to try them. I purchased both of these products during a sale at Sephora, and long story short, my skin is loving them!
The texture of this potion is like water, but don’t be fooled—it’s anything but water-like. I got some hints from my Instagram community about its strength (25% acid complex…whoa) and suggested use, so I approached the product with caution. This is the first acid at this strength that I’ve introduced into my skincare routine; to say I was intimidated would be an understatement because I have sensitive skin!
I felt slight irritation (stinging) and redness upon my first application. My initial frequency of use was only once a week (and at night), and I saw a fair amount of purging in this initial period; thankfully, this was limited to my cheeks. After a few weeks of consistent use (again, only at night and at an increased frequency of a couple times a week), I began to see improvements in my skin. My pores looked smaller and my skin felt smoother. I’ve seen a reduction in my breakouts too; in fact, I haven’t seen a new face demon in weeks! I’ve also seen some slight reduction in my post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and would love if it helped get rid of it altogether.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that I cleanse very gently before using this product. I never exfoliate before using an acid and use a mild cleanser like the Ranavat Luminous Cream Cleanser as a first step. Overall, I’m impressed with this product and have even heard it’s a dupe for Biologique Recherche P50 Lotion. I haven’t tried P50, so I can’t comment on that.
This potion has a very light herbal scent. It includes an essential oil—Clary to be precise. If you’re looking for an essential oil free product, this may not be for you. The scent dissipates within 5 minutes.
Gorgeous textured cardboard outer with a violet glass bottle to hold the product. The bottle has a narrow neck and a small plastic stopper at its opening to manage flow of the product. If you visit Moon Juice’s site, you’ll see that they recently redesigned their packaging. I prefer the dark packaging because it has been shown to preserve ingredients more effectively, but their new lighter packaging is quite the sight to behold!

Packed with adaptogenic ingredients, many of which are used in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, this serum noticeably plumps and hydrates my skin. The texture is a bit odd: it feels like mucilage—akin to okra guts—and is a little sticky upon application. It look me a little while to get used to the texture, but I found that putting an oil on top helps the stickiness dissipate. It pairs well with the Acid Potion and wears nicely under makeup. I also find that this serum is extremely gentle on my sensitive skin, and I can use this day and night.
The scent of this product is light, mildly sweet, and floral. It contains essential oils of rose, sandalwood, and patchouli. While the aroma is pleasant, I could very easily go without fragrance.
As mentioned above, this product comes in a lovely branded cardboard box. The plumping jelly is housed in a violet glass pump bottle.
